Comparison of Two Different Successful Coaches

Today we are going to compare and contrast Gregg Popovich and John Wooden. Gregg Popovich is a coach
for the San Antonio Spurs and has been the head coach for them since 1996. He is the winningest coach in
the NBA and has won 5 championships while coaching. John Wooden was the head coach at UCLA and won
10 national championships in 12 years and also was named coach of the year six times. They both are
different though it’s different methods to this thing called winning. Coach Popovich is really straightforward
with his players and he wants his players to make decisions for themselves. He is ok with cursing and
screaming at his players because he doesn’t care about their emotions in a basketball game. Greg will make
a person's life hard just to see if they are mentally strong just like he did to his former player Dejounte
Murray. Coach Wooden doesn’t think that coaches shouldn’t scream at their players because it doesn’t do
anything but make the player feel pressured to do right and it can also bring down their confidence.
What he does is just sit them down and when they come back in they will know what to do and it will
help them play harder. I think this helps because nobody wants to come out of the game so if you know
you can correct the mistake I’m pretty sure they will. He thinks players should show the people
watching them a positive attitude. No matter what you say about these coaches they have a winning
pedigree they just do it in a different way.
